マニラより暑い日本の夏
東南アジアからの訪日客にとっても、日本の夏は暑すぎるというのが、最近は周知の事実となっている。７月、８月は35度以上になる猛暑日も多く、外国人は特に高温多湿の気候に参ってしまう。もちろん、日本人にとっても大変な蒸し暑さである。夏に日本を訪れて外出するときは熱中症にならないために通気性のいい服装と、こまめに水分を補給することを心がけたい。
Summer in Japan, Hotter than Manila!?
Everyone around the world knows that summer in Japan is hot, but just how much? People from colder climates would definitely struggle, but even visitors from Southeast Asian countries suffer from the heat and humidity of Japanese summer despite already having tropical climates all year round. During July-August, it’s no surprise if the temperature reaches 35°C or higher. To avoid heat strokes, make sure to stay cool by wearing breathable clothing and staying hydrated.
みこしは神様の乗り物
日本では祭りが行われる地域の人々がみこし（神輿）を担ぐ。みこしは神社から神様に一時的に外に出てもらうための乗り物であり、形や装飾は神社をイメージしてつくられている。みこしを担いで周ることで、地域の平和と繁栄を祈願する。
Mikoshi: The Vehicle for Gods
When you go to a summer festival in Japan, you might wonder why so many people are carrying a palanquin. Those are called Mikoshi. They can be described as portable shrines and serve as a vehicle for deities to temporarily step out of their main shrines. During festivals, people carry the mikoshi around the community to ward off misfortunes and to pray for peace and prosperity.

Aomori Nebuta Festival
The Aomori Nebuta Festival is one of the most popular festivals in Japan, where the main attraction is the Nebuta. They are 9-meter-wide and 5-meter-high gigantic human-shaped floats resembling anything from ancient warlords to demons. During the procession, dancers or “Haneto” bounce around the Nebuta.
青森ねぶた祭
東北３大祭りの１つ。豪傑や鬼、竜などをモチーフにつくられた高さ５メートル、全長９メートルにおよぶ巨大な人形灯籠（ねぶた）が街を練り歩き、「はねと」と呼ばれる踊り子が跳ねまわる。正式な衣装を着れば、誰でもはねととして参加することができる。

Akita Kanto Festival
The Akita Kanto Festival has been around for over 270 years to ward off evil and pray for a good harvest. Performers have many lanterns on their foreheads or shoulders while showcasing their acrobatic skills using a 12-meter-high pole weighing 50 kg.
秋田竿燈まつり
約270年に渡って行われてきた夏の厄除け、五穀豊穣を祈る祭り。東北３大祭りの１つ。稲穂をイメージした竿燈は、最大12メートル、重さ50キロ、46個の提灯がつり下げられる。祭りでは竿燈が大通りに勢ぞろいし、職人が手のひらや額、肩に乗せて、妙技を披露する。

Sendai Tanabata Festival
The Sendai Tanabata Festival is the biggest tanabata festival (Star Festival) in Japan. The big decorations made with bamboo and paper set the tone for festivities, and gorgeously color the city with vibrant hues.
仙台七夕まつり
戦国武将・伊達政宗の時代から行われてきた祭り。東北3大祭りの１つ。8月上旬に行われるのは、七夕の新暦（7月7日）と旧暦（8月中旬から下旬）の中間で、お盆の準備と秋の豊作を祈るためとされる。期間中は仙台市内が豪華絢爛な七夕飾りで彩られる。

Fukagawa Hachiman Festival
With a 380-year history, the Fukagawa Hachiman Festival is recognized as one of the three major festivals in Tokyo. Three different types of festivals, including the water–pouring festival, are held every three years. For 2025, the mikoshi processions will be highlighted.
深川八幡祭り
380年の歴史があり、 ５月の神田祭、６月の山王祭と並んで江戸３大祭に数えられる。３年サイクルで、沿道からみこしに水をかける水かけ祭りとして有名な「本祭り」、「陰祭（かげまつり）」「御本社祭」を順番に開催。2025年は陰祭に当たり、みこしの巡行などが行われる。

Nippon Domannaka Festival
In Japanese, “Domannaka” means “right in the center,” and represents the geographical location of Nagoya in Japan. The Nippon Domannaka Festival is one of Japan’s biggest dance events, where local and international dance teams gather to showcase their skills, and where visitors can join in on the fun of dancing at any time.
にっぽんど真ん中祭り
1999年に大学生が企画・主催したイベントから始まり、今では日本最大級の祭典となった。日本および海外からの約200チームが地域と文化を反映した踊りを披露する。全員参加型の祭りをコンセプトに掲げており、観客も一緒に踊りを楽しむ「総踊り」が行われる。

Tenjin Festival
Dating back over 1000 years, the Tenjin Festival was held to comfort the spirit of Michizane Sugawara, a politician and scholar during the Heian period. Some of the festival highlights are the 100 decorated boats carrying mikoshi and bonfires that float on the river.
天神祭
菅原道真の霊を鎮めるため平安時代から行われてきたとされる。日本３大祭の１つ。みこしが巡行する陸渡御（りくとぎょ）に続く船渡御（ふなとぎょ）では100隻の船が川を往来。夜にはかがり火が灯り、荘厳で幻想的な雰囲気に。最終日には奉納花火が打ち上げられる。

Gion Festival
The Gion Festival originated during the Heian period to appease the evil spirits that brought sickness to the people. Its main attraction is the gorgeous Yamaboko float parade, which is registered as a UNESCO Intangible World Heritage Site.
祇園祭
平安時代、疫病を流行らせた怨霊を鎮めるために行われたのが起源。大阪の天神祭、東京の神田祭とともに日本３大祭りと呼ばれる。最大の見どころは、豪華絢爛な山鉾（やまぼこ）が巡行する前祭と後祭。山鉾巡行はユネスコ無形文化世界遺産に登録されている。

The Awa Odori
With a 400-year history, the Awa Odori is one of the most famous Bon Odori festivals in Japan. The dance groups parading around the streets showcase their perfectly synchronized moves. You can check out the contrast between the graceful female dance and the dynamic male dance.
阿波踊り
400年の歴史を持つといわれ、日本で最も有名な盆踊りの１つ。しなやかで優雅な女踊り、自由で豪快な男踊りがある。 「連（れん）」と呼ばれる踊り手の集団が軽快なリズムに合わせ、息がピッタリ合った踊りを披露しながら練り歩く光景は圧巻。

Yosakoi Festival
Starting in the 1950s, the Yosakoi Festival features dancers wearing colorful costumes and flashy makeup while holding naruko, a small wooden clapper. In addition to traditional Bon Odori style dance, you can see a wide variety of dance styles incorporating samba, hip-hop, and more.
よさこい祭り
徳島の阿波踊りに対抗して1950年代に始まった踊りの祭典。踊り手はカラフルな衣装に派手な化粧をし、手に作物から鳥を追い払うための鳴子（なるこ）呼ばれる道具を持つ。伝統的な盆踊りのほか、サンバ、ヒップホップなどを取り入れた独創的な踊りも披露される。

Shoro Nagashi (Spirit Boat Procession)
The Shoro Nagashi is a unique festival in Nagasaki to mourn the spirits of the deceased. Participants would walk the streets towing a handmade boat, then at dusk, they use firecrackers and bells to send the deceased off to heaven cheerfully.
精霊流し
亡くなった人の遺族が霊を弔うために行う長崎ならではのお盆の行事。自作の船をひいて街を歩く。船には故人が好きだったものの装飾が施されたり、遺族からのメッセージなどが書かれたりする。夕暮れに爆竹や鐘が打ち鳴らされ、にぎやかに故人を極楽へ送り出す。
