Ｋポップから始まった韓国語熱
学ぶ困難を乗り越える情熱
ある調査によると、フィリピンで今一番人気の外国語は韓国語なのだそう（外国語学習アプリ「デュオリンゴ」）。その理由はいうまでもなく、Kポップ、Kドラマ、映画などにより、韓国語への関心が高まったこと。マーゴウ・アリソンさんもそんな１人。Kポップのアルバムに書かれている文章や歌詞を知りたいと思い、2015年に韓国語を学び始めました。語彙の勉強には外国語学習アプリのデュオリンゴが役に立ったそう。一番難しいのは文法、特に接辞の用法でした。同じ語でも接辞によって文の意味が異なるなど複雑です。
マーゴウ・アリソンさんは、現在週２回、韓国文化センターで学んでいます。韓国語のネイティブスピーカーの先生による授業では、英語やタガログ語はほとんど使われません。一見、大変そうに思える授業ですが、マーゴウ・アリソンさんは韓国語でのコミュニケ－ションの練習になるとポジティブ思考。そして、実際に韓国に旅行したとき、自分の母語に頼らないことで、韓国語の能力がアップするのを実感しました。

Korean Learning: A Hobby Turned Commitment
Stemming from her love of K-pop and K-drama and blooming into a passion and goal for her career, Margaux Allyson Pasturan’s Korean language studies grew into more than just a simple hobby.
Margaux studies at the Korean Cultural Center (KCC), attending 2 classes a week. Her proficiency is 2B, but she returned to 1B classes to strengthen her foundations because she stopped for a few years.
At first, she utilized her interest in K-pop in her practice, like forming sentences describing albums and trying to understand lyrics in songs. Duolingo also helped with memorizing vocabulary. Grammar is the most difficult and confusing for her due to the many affixes that can change the meaning of a sentence, even if they have the same words.
Instructors at KCC mainly use Korean for teaching and are also natives of Korea. Margaux believes this is an advantage as it encourages more practice for better understanding and communication during lessons. Her recent trip to Korea also significantly helped sharpen her skills because it challenged her not to rely on her first language.
Margaux said, “It’s like you’re a child again when you learn a new language, that’s why practice is really important. If you’re passionate about learning, you will overcome the hardships that come with it.”
There is a sense of pride when a native compliments her Korean. It motivates her and makes her proud of her studies. This journey that began as a hobby has now opened endless possibilities for her that don’t just give her a sense of fulfilment, but also an advantage in her future.
