Uniform: To Wear or Not to Wear

マカティで制服姿の若者たちが大学に入って行くのを見た。高校生が大学の進路相談会に行くのだと思っていたら、彼らは大学生だった。フィリピンでは大学によって制服があるらしい。制服がある大学に行った同僚によると、平日午後３時までの講義は制服着用だったという。私の経験から大学は私服と思っていたので、軽いカルチャーショックである。しかし考えてみれば、シャツにチノパン、ポロシャツにジーンズという私の普段の服装は数十年前の学生時代と同じである。あたかも今の私の制服になってしまっているのだと気づいた。（ E ）

When I saw a group of students in school uniform walking into a university in Makati, I thought they were high school students going on a campus tour. But they were college students. I was surprised to know some university students are required to wear a school uniform while college students don’t usually wear a uniform in Japan.
I wore a casual shirt and jeans or chino at college. Oh, I just recognize I’m still dressed similarly to what I was at college some decades ago.
