Miniature Sculptures ‘Netsuke’
根付（ねつけ）とは、江戸時代、巾着やたばこ入れ、印籠などを着物の帯にさげて歩く時にすべり落ちないように紐の先に付けられた留め具のこと。携帯電話のストラップの原型とも言われる。根付には木や象牙などが使われ、大きさは約1センチ～５センチ程度。小さいながら精巧な彫刻が施された根付にはアンティークなものから現代の作品があり、日本はもとより海外でも美術品として高く評価されている。 この展覧会では、現代の根付師による木彫の根付作品を紹介。これまで根付の実物を見たことがない人は、この機会にぜひ。ひと目見て、あなたもキュートなアートにはまるかも。展覧会は国際交流基金マニラ主催、在フィリピン日本大使館、アヤラ美術館など後援。
Netsuke are miniature sculptures invented in 17th century in Japan, which function as a toggle to secure the cord of a pouch or container hung from the Japanese traditional garment Kimono sash. The size of netsuke is about 1 inch -2inches. Very sophisticated carvings are engraved with craftmanship on materials such as wood, ivory etc. Nowadays netsuke is an internationally praised artwork. This exhibition presented by the Japan Foundation, Manila in collaboration with Ayala Museum and Ayala Malls showcases contemporary wood-carved netsuke by Japanese artists.
