ウイ・チャコビル

Uy Chaco Building

　1914年に建てられたエスコルタ通りにある6階建てのオフィスビル。マニラで最初の高層ビルといわれる。「もし、ビノンドを象徴する建物を選ぶなら、私はこのウイ・チャコビルを選びます。中国人実業家が建てたこのビルは、設計を米国人建築家が手がけています。今はオフィスビルとしては使えませんが、銀行がこの100年の歴史ある建物をちゃんと保存していることをうれしく思います」　

Built in 1914, the 6-story Uy Chaco Building on Escolta St. is considered Manila’s first skyscraper.‘If I were to choose an iconic building that represent Binondo, this one has to be it. Built by a Chinese businessman and designed by American architect, Samuel E. Rowell, it has witness that changes that Binondo has underwent in the last 100 years. Despite the fact that it can’t be used for office space due to structural issues, I am glad that the bank that owns it choose to maintain and preserve it for now’.
