BINONDO　ビノンド

中華文化とカトリックの融合
ビノンドの歴史に触れる

中華街として知られるビノンドには、スペイン統治時代にキリスト教に改宗した中国人のために、1596年にドミニコ会の司祭によって建てられたビノンド教会がある。

中国人の父とフィリピン人の母の元に生まれた聖ロレンソ・ルイスが守護聖人。グレーを基調とした外観の中に、縁起の良い赤色がアクセントとして取り入れられ、また内装も淡い赤を基調としているところに、中華文化の影響が感じられる。

また、ビノンド教会には、耳の聞こえない中国人が祈ったことで聴力を回復し、会話ができるようになったといわれる像があり、そのレプリカの十字が飾られているのが、オンピン通りとトマス・ピンピン通りが交わるところに位置する礼拝所サント・クリスト・デ・ロンゴスである。ここはユニークな礼拝所で、十字に向かいながら中国寺院のように長い線香を手に十字を切る。キリスト教と仏教が融合したビノンドならではのスポットなのだ。

Fusion of Buddhism and Catholicism Feel the History of Binondo

Binondo Church was established for Chinese who converted to Christianity by the Dominican Order in 1596. The patron saint is Saint Lorenzo Ruiz who has a Chinese father and a Filipino mother. The red colors seen on the exterior and interior produce a Chinese ambience.

There is also a place of worship on the cross-point of Ongpin Street and Tomas Pinpin Street called Sto. Cristo de Longos. It is unique as people pray to the cross with long red incense sticks where the fusion of Catholicism and Chinese Buddhism is seen.
