世の中には「親ばか」なんて言葉もありますが、まさにその通り。一度ネコを飼うと、他にどんなにかわいいネコを見ても「うちの子が一番！」と思うものです。フィリピンでネコと一緒に生活する人たちに、語ってもらいました。

オーシャンOcean　♀　 ９カ月 Nine months old 「なぜかパンが大好きで、私がパンを食べているとどんな種類のパンでも近づいてきます。でも実際にあげると、ほんの少ししか食べないんですよね……不思議です」 “Ocean loves bread. Every time I eat bread, she comes up to me. But when I give it to her, she eats only a bit. I don’t know why…”

　幼いころからネコ好きで、昔飼っていたような白いネコをまた飼いたくてフェイスブックの里親募集ページで見つけたのがオーシャンでした。里親になった当時、実はすでにぺネロぺという名前が付いていました。でも呼んでみてもあまり反応がよくなく、試しに自分で考えたオーシャンという名前で呼んでみたら反応してくれたので、そのまま改名することに。

　始めはとてもシャイで、来てから１週間ほどはずっと隠れていました。しかしいったん懐くと、とても愛らしい性格をしていて、家の中のどこへ行くにも寂しがって私についてくるように。寝るときも一緒です。

　SNSでネコを連れてハイキングをしている人を見て、私もハイキングが好きなので、連れていけるネコが理想でした。しかし、オーシャンは、外は怖がって出たがらないし、白いネコは紫外線に弱く外に出すのはよくないそうなので、ハイキングには連れていけません。家で遊ぶのは大好きで、お気に入りのカバのぬいぐるみを投げると追いかけ、くわえて私のところに持ってきます。寝ているときと遊んでいるときにすごくかわいい顔をするんです。そういう時に、この子の里親になってよかったなとしみじみと思いますね。

The Name Suggests Her Beauty

Having missed my former white cat, I started to search a white cat on an adoption page on Facebook and found Ocean there. She already had a name “Penelope.” But she didn’t react to it when I called the name, which made me decide to change her name to “Ocean”, named after her beautiful blue eyes.

She was very shy just after starting to live with me. But once she got used to me, she was very sweet and doesn’t like to be alone so she follows me wherever I go. She sleeps with me, too.

I saw a video on social media of a person going on a hiking with their cats. I like hiking and wanted to try with Ocean but I’ve never tried, as she is afraid of going outside, and it is also said a white cat like her can’t tolerate the sunlight well. Though she doesn’t go outside, she is still active at home. She likes to play with her favorite hippo stuffed toy. She makes a very pretty face when she sleeps and plays with me. That’s the moment I fully realize that I was very lucky to be able to adopt her.
