きっかけはアニメのキスシーン

　彼女のBLへの目覚めのきっかけは11歳の頃。アニメ『NARUTO』で、主人公ナルトとサスケ（ナルトのライバル的存在）が話しているとき、あるクラスメートがナルトにぶつかった拍子に、ナルトとサスケがキスをしてしまうシーンがあった。この頃は単純に笑っただけだった。しかし、よほど心に残っていたのか、ネット上のBLコンテンツの存在を知った15歳の頃、最初に探したのは「ナルト×サスケ」モノだったという。

「BLは日本のものと思ってる？」

　二次創作のお気に入りはナルト×サスケ以外に、『名探偵コナン』の工藤新一×怪盗キッド、『黒子のバスケ』の黒子テツヤ×火神大我など。『黒執事』に登場する、完璧な執事セバスチャン・ミカエリスとワガママな貴族の当主シエル・ファントムハイヴが「劇中の役割を交換した設定で愛し合うやおい作品も良かった」らしい。二次創作の世界で高度に発達した設定やキャラクターを改変する文化にも完全についてきている様子だ。

　他にも「wattpad」というオリジナル小説投稿プラットフォーム（2007年設立）の小説もよく読み、『Finding Mr. Perfect Flaws』『Like Kissing Booth』『Between the Lines』などのBL小説がお気に入りだそう。これらの「名作」は英語話者によって書かれ、英語話者に読まれるオリジナルBL作品。日本的な要素はもはやない。「日本のBL小説の翻訳じゃないの？」と確認したら「なぜBLが日本のものと思っているの？」との返答。BLはすでに国境を超え、独り立ちした国際的サブカルチャーになっていたようだ。

Boys’ Love and Yaoi

　ボーイズラブ（BL）は、主に女性作家による女性読者向けの男性同性愛を主題とした小説やコミックのこと。類義語の「やおい」は、ヤマなし、オチなし、イミなしの略で、ストーリー性に乏しい男性同性愛作品などのこと。BL 作品を好む女性を「腐女子（ふじょし）」と呼ぶ。

Boys’ love a.k.a. BL is a genre of fictional novels and comics which features homoerotic relationships between beautiful boys. BL are predominantly created by female authors for a female audience. Yaoi is a synonym of BL , which literally means ‘No climax, No punch line, No meaning’. Female fans of BL are described as fujoshi, which means ‘rotten girls’ in Japanese .

My Liking for BL Awakened by Naruto

One of the triggers that woke her up to the world of BL was an official anime. At the age of 11, she watched Naruto. There was a scene in which Naruto accidentally kissed Sasuke after a classmate bumped into Naruto. At that time, she “just laughed.” At the age of 15, when she got to know BL contents online, the first BL work she sought was Naruto x Sasuke.

“Do you think BL is Japanese stuff?”

In addition to Naruto x Sasuke, her favorite fan-made works are Kudo Shinichi x Kaito Kid from Detective Conan and Kuroko Tetsuya x Kagami Taiga from Kuroko no Basketball. She also is fond of Black Butler, in which the perfect butler, Sebastian and the selfish aristocrat, Ciel are to make love in a setting where the roles were switched.

She loves to read novels such as Finding Mr. Perfect Flaws, Like Kissing Booth, and Between the Lines on “wattpad,” an original novel submission platform. These works are original BLs, written and read by English speakers. There is no Japanese elements in these BL novels.

“Why do you think BL is Japanese stuff?,” she asked. Well, the BL culture has obviously gone beyond national borders to be a global subculture.
