土地柄や文化、国民性が反映されるファッション。果たしてフィリピンのファッションにはどのような特徴があるのでしょうか。マニラの貧困地区で暮らす子どもがランウェイを歩くファッションショーの開催やファッションスクールの開校など、ファッションを通じた支援活動を行うNPO「DEAR ME」の西側愛弓さんと小村萌さんに聞きました。（文中敬称略）

初めてフィリピンに来た時に見たファッションの印象は？

西側　2015年にマニラに初めて来たんですが、その時思ったのは、カジュアルなファッションの人が多いということ。明るい原色や柄の服を着ている人もめだち、日本との違いを感じましたね。

小村　私は2017年にセブとボラカイに行ったのが初めてのフィリピンでした。海のある生活という場所柄、皆さんビーチカジュアルで、男性はアロハシャツの人が多かった。カラフルでビビッドな色は日本ではあまり見られないと思いましたし、自分が好きなものを着ているという感じが印象的でした。

フィリピンのファッションにはどのような特徴があると思われますか？

小村　ひと言でいうと、「自由」でしょうか。日本は流行のファッションがあって、それに合わせる人が多いですが、フィリピンではみんなが思い思いの服を着て自分を表現しているように思います。

西側　自分の好きな服を着るというのは、フィリピンらしさでしょう。日本では今、ロングパンツが流行ですが、気候の面からもフィリピンではショート丈が主流。50代、60代の女性がミニスカートをはいているを見て衝撃を受けたことがありますが、周囲の目を気にせずファッションを楽しむのがフィリピン流だと思います。

フィリピンの今のファッショントレンドは？

小村　フィリピン人のインフルエンサーがファッションブランドを立ち上げて、人気を博しています。若い人は新しいものをどんどん取り入れて、おしゃれになっている。洗練されたストリートカジュアルで、例えばソックスをワンポイントで目立たせるとか、個性を出すのが流行っているように思います。

西側　ストリートファッション、カジュアルでスポーティーなファッションが若い人の間では人気ですね。Ｔシャツ、デニム、スニーカーというのはフィリピンに限らず、世界的なトレンドでもあります。最初に私がフィリピンに来た時とはファッションも少しずつ変化していて、以前はファッションといえばザ・カジュアルだったのが、最近はシックでスタイリッシュ、きれいめなファッションも見るようになりました。

注目しているフィリピンのファッションブランドは？

西側　今、個人的に気になっているフィリピンブランドがあって、まずは「Vania Romoff」。 デザインが洗練されていて、ヨーロッパのブランドのような雰囲気。フィリピンらしくパイナップル繊維のピーニャ素材のものもあります。あと、バッグの「ARANÁZ」はきれいめコーディネートに使えそう。 どちらのブランドも日本人の女性に好まれそうです。ファッションアイテムのショッピングなら、マカティ市ロックウェルのパワープラントモールは日本のデパートのようなショッピングができそうです。

小村　私が最近見つけて気になっているフィリピンブランドは「Maison Métisse」。フィリピンの自然の原料を使って環境に配慮され、デザインもおしゃれで南国感があります。マニラで服やバッグを買う時におすすめしたいのが、ファッションフェア。マニラでは多くのファッションフェアが開催されています。地方の伝統的なファッションや雑貨が出展されていて、新しい出会いがあるのが楽しみ。フェアで購入することで、地方の人への経済的なサポートにもなります。ファッションフェアの情報はインスタグラムで知ることができます。

ほかの東南アジアの国で印象に残っているファッションは？

西側　インドネシアのバリ島には現地の素材を使ったワンピースやバッグがあって、エキゾチックでいかにもバリって感じでした。

小村　ベトナム北部山岳地帯サパの少数民族、モン族の花柄模様が印象に残っています。モン族はこの伝統の模様を大事に守っていて、衣服はもちろん、赤ちゃんの毛布にも使われるなど生活の中にしっかり根付いているのがすばらしいと思いました。

ファッションとは、
私にとって人生のヒーロー

ご自身のファッションに対するポリシーやこだわりは？

小村　着ていてテンションが上がる服、自信が持てる服を着ています。流行の服というよりも、この服を着ていたら今日はがんばれそう、胸を張ってプレゼンできそうと思える服です。形は身体にフィットするシルエットが好み。色は、シンプルな中にグリーンやピンクなどのビビッドなカラーを取り入れるようにしています。

　フィリピンや、私が好きなブラジルでは普通に着られているビビッドな色や柄の服は、日本では派手過ぎてまず着ないと思っていました。しかし、思い切って着るようになったのは、自分が好きなファッションを身に付けるということを、フィリピンで学んだからです。

西側　ワンポイント何か特徴があって、長くタイムレスに着ることができる服を選んでいます。ビンテージファッションが好きなんですが、服を長く、大事に着る、人から譲り受けた服を本当に大切にする文化に惹かれます。そしてサステナビリティへの配慮もしっかり考えられていることが、私のファッションに対するポリシーです。運営するファッションブランド「coxco」でも素材や生産背景の透明性にこだわっています。

今日私たちが着ている服は「coxco」ブランドの服で、小村さんが着ているブラウンのワンピースは不要になった残布 、私のはペットボトルを再利用した素材を使っています。

　たくさんの服を持つよりも1点1点大切するべきということが私にとってのファッションへの思いであり、多くの人に伝えていきたいと思うことです。

Interview with Fashionistas 

Filipino Fashion :　Enjoy Themselves in Their Own Way

Fashion is rooted in national characters and culture. What is fashion in the Philippines like ? Navi Manila interviews Ayumi Nishigawa and Moe Komura from a Japanese NPO, which organizes fashion shows featuring underprivileged kids in Manila as runway models and starts a fashion school.

What was your first impression of Filipino people’s fashion ?
Nishigawa When I came to Manila in 2015 for the first time, I found a lot of local people wore flashy color casual outfits unlike in Japan.
Komura First I visited Cebu and Boracay in 2017 and also found the difference between the Philippines and Japan in fashion. Seeing local people wearing simple beach casual in vivid and bright colors, I thought Filipino people wore what they liked.

What do you think is the feature of Filipino fashion?
Komura In a word, I say it’s freedom. Filipino people have the freedom to wear just what they like. In Japan, people tend to follow trends in fashion.
Nishigawa It is part of the identity of Filipino people that they wear what they like without caring what others think. In Japan, long length pants are now on trend, but in the Philippines short length pants are popular due to its hot climate. I saw elderly Filipino women wearing a mini skirt, but it is not a common fashion in Japan.

What do you think is the current fashion trend in the Philippines?
Komura New fashion brands produced by Filipino influencers are well received. Youngsters are getting more fashionable by catching emerging fashion trends. Their street casual styles are more sophisticated now.
Nishigawa Street fashion, sporty and casual outfits are popular among young Filipinos. T-shirt, denim and sneakers are world wide fashion trend items. I recently noticed some Filipinos look chic and stylish rather than wearing casual.

What is your favorite Filipino fashion brand?
Nishigawa I am interested in Vania Romoff, which offers stylish clothing like European brands, and a bag brand ARANÁZ, which is good to coordinate with classy outfits. I think Japanese women would like these brands.
Komura Maison Métisse is the one that attracts me now. I like the brand because it offers fashionable designs with tropical atmosphere and it is also ethical and environmentally conscious. I would like to recommend fashion fairs when shopping for clothing, bags etc. At fashion fairs, you get unique clothing and handicraft items locally produced in regions. Your purchase supports local producers in rural areas as well. You can find information on fashion fairs on Instagram.

What other South East Asian country fashion has impressed you ?
Nishigawa In Bali, Indonesia, there were one-piece dresses and bags made from local materials. They were exotic and obviously very Balinese.
Komura I was fascinated by floral designs of the Hmong people in Sapa, northern Vietnam. They cherish the traditional design, which is rooted in their life.

What are you particular about your fashion?
Komura I wear clothing to make me confident, give me a boost, and energize me. I like body fit outfits. My favorite color combination is a simple color with an accent color such as vivid green or pink. I did not wear loud fashion in Japan but I now dare to do that after I learned I should wear what I like in the Philippines.
Nishigawa I like timeless fashion styles and vintage fashion. I choose clothing which I can wear for a long time. At my own fashion brand coxco, we are particular about sustainability, what material we use and transparency of production. The brown dress Moe wears is made from fabric scraps and mine is from plastic pet bottles. Both are products of my brand coxco.
No need to own many clothes, but value each item.I would like to widely share this idea with many people.
