リチャード・ギア主演の映画「HACHI 約束の犬」を見て、ハチは亡くなった飼い主が帰ってくるのを駅で待っていたという物語にとても感動し、いつか秋田犬を飼いたいと思っていました。ただ、私とパートナーはコンドミニアムに住んでいるため小型か中型犬を探していたところ、柴犬を知りました。その後、柴犬の性格などを知れば知るほど、大好きになりました。

　柴犬は日本が原産地なので、日本語の名前を付けようといろいろ考えていました。ショウギという名前の由来は、頭脳が勝負の日本のゲーム「将棋」からで、頭の良い柴犬にとても似合うと思ったからです。ショウギはケソン市のブリーダーから購入しました。

　走ると耳が後ろに下がってキツネのようでもあり、行動は忍者のようにすばやい。柴犬の特徴である丸まった尻尾もとても愛らしい。ショウギは私のひざの上で仰向けに寝転がり、お腹や頭を触ってもらうのが大好きで、いつの間にか寝ている姿を見るとかわいくて仕方がありません。

　私もパートナーも在宅勤務なので、ショウギと一緒にいる時間がたくさんあります。また柴犬は毛皮が厚いので、熱中症にも気を付けています。以前、ショウギを連れてバタンガスに日帰り旅行をしました。自然の中にいるショウギは本当に楽しそうでしたね。

‘Hachi’ in the movie brings a shibainu in our life

We were extremely impressed by the movie “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale”, based on a true story of a faithful Akita Inu that waited for his owner at the station every evening even after the owner died.

My partner and I wanted to have an Akita Inu but it’s difficult to keep it in our condominium. Looking for a small to medium size dog, we found Shiba Inu and purchased a male from a breeder in Quezon City.

We named the Shiba Inu ‘Shogi’ which means a Japanese game like chess. As Shiba Inu is originally from Japan, we wanted to name our Shiba Inu a Japanese name. Shogi is a game that requires player’s strategy . It would be great on a smart Shiba Inu.

Shogi loves to lie down facing up and to have a rub on his belly and head massage until he falls asleep on my lap. We have traveled to Batangas with Shogi a few times. He was so happy playing in the nature.
