400年の歴史ある教会と
マニラ最大のモスクが共存

キアポに着いたら、まずキアポ教会を目指そう。1582年に建立された由緒ある教会で、フィリピンで最も有名な教会の１つといわれる。平日の昼間でも、ミサの時間帯は礼拝する人でいっぱいに。フィリピンのカトリック教伝統行事「ブラックナザレ祭」で市内を巡行するブラックナザレ像が安置されていることでも有名だ。

このキアポ教会のほかに、マニラ首都圏最大といわれるモスクがあるのもキアポ。それがマニラ・ゴールデン・モスクである。当時のリビアの最高指導者カダフィ大佐の訪問に合わせ、イメルダ元大統領夫人の監修によって、1976年に建設が始まった。しかし、結局カダフィ大佐の訪問はなくなったんだとか。キアポ内でも主にムスリムの人々が居住する地域に位置し、モスク内に一足踏み入れると厳粛な雰囲気を感じる一方、ムスリムでない外国人でも温かく迎えてくれる。

Historical Church and Manila’s Biggest Mosque Coexist

Quiapo Church is a must-see sight when you visit Quiapo. It has a long history since 1582 and is one of the most popular churches in the Philippines. It is also famous for the Black Nazarene statue.

In addition to this distinguished church, there is also the biggest mosque in Metro Manila in Quiapo, which is the Manila Golden Mosque. Once you step into the mosque, you feel a holy and magnificent atmosphere. Muslim people at the mosque will welcome everyone, the non-Muslims, too.
