On February 16, I went to China Town of Manila for the Chinese New Year. It was nearly noon when I arrived. From Friendship Gate that faces Santa Cruz Parish Church, I entered Ongpin Street. Stalls lined up the streets and there were waves of people. The parade was passing through the street, it was just like a crowded train during rush-hour. Finally I was moving through the mass of people little by little, but no matter where I go, there was this crowd. if you go out to town in Manila metropolitan area it gets crowded, but I didnt expect it to reach this level. About 90% of the Filipinos are Christians, I was surprised that so many people gather here for the Lunar New Year. Of course not all of them are Chinese or have Chinese ancestry, but the power of Chinese community in this country is overwhelming. Why not try visiting China Town and experience it for yourself.
