ブラックバスか、架空の魚か、製作者に聞いてみたい

一時帰国するときは、おみやげを何にするか悩む。ドライマンゴー、ポルボロン、パパイヤ石けん‥‥。いつも同じではつまらない。何にしようかと迷っていた先日、見つけたのが魚の形のサンダルである。
魚はブラックバスのようであり、色は緑、黒、オレンジがある。緑や黒はブラックバスに見えなくもないとして、オレンジのはニシキゴイかハチメに見えてしまう。中国製でフィリピン名物というわけではないが、インパクトは十分にあると思われる。おそらく日本でも売っているだろうが、このようなキッチュな商品を自分で買うにはなかなか勇気がいる。おみやげなら喜んでもらえるはずである。マカティ市では300ペソだが東京にいる友人によると、類似の物がドン・キホーテで1290円という。
もし家にネコがいたら、このサンダルに興味を示すかもしれない。ネコに喜んでもらえたらそれはそれで本望である。なお、このサンダルを受け取る人には家の中での使用をすすめた方がいい。なぜなら軽い気持ちで近所に買い物へ行く時に履いていったなら、足元を見た人から「〇〇さん大丈夫かしら。今年の夏は特に暑かったから‥‥‥」と心配されるかもしれないからだ。

I always wonder what souvenirs to buy when travelling back home to Japan. Dried mangoes, polvoron, papaya soap… my family and friends are delighted with these souvenirs, but I want to give them something different.
One day I found a pair of fish-shaped sandal. The fish looks like a black bass. There are green, black and orange color variations. The black and green fish are similar to a black bass but orange one is like a koi carp. The sandal is not made in the Philippines but in China. The price is 300 pesos.
I am sure this souvenir will amuse my friends and family and a pet cat may love the sandal.
I also think it’s better to advise them to wear the sandal only at home. If they wear the fish-shaped sandal when going out for shopping nearby, neighbors will be surprised to see what happened to their feet.
