___Arguing that another shopping mall would not do any good on the cultural development of Manila, heritage advocates scored Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada’s plan to convert the prewar Rizal Memorial Coliseum into a shopping complex.City Hall has announced the development would be carried out in a joint venture with businessman Enrique Razon.
___Rizal Memorial Coliseum, located inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, was built in 1934 in the Art Deco style. It was designed by architect Juan Arellano, and has been historic host to various local and international sporting events.

■ リサール競技場をつぶしてモールにしようとする　 エストラダ市長を批判
___「ショッピングモールを増やしてもマニラの文化を発展させることにはならない……」。文化遺産保護を訴える人たちは、リサール記念競技場を複合商業施設に建て替えようとするエストラダ市長の計画に異議を唱えている。市当局は、商業施設の開発は民間実業家との協力で行っていくと発表した。
___リサール記念競技場は同スポーツ複合施設内にある。建築家のフアン・アレリャーノ氏が設計したアールデコの建築様式の建物で1934年に完成した。それ以来、国内外の歴史的なスポーツイベントの会場として利用されてきた。
