人気の観光地を１泊で楽しみ尽くす

　今の時代、情報が溢れるインターネットで旅行先について詳細に調べてから行くと、現地に行ってからのワクワク感が薄れることがあります。そのため、綿密な計画は立てず、心の赴くまま行き当たりばったりで旅するのが私のスタイルです。失敗することもありますが、それも含めて旅の思い出になると思っています。現地の人だけが知るスポットに行けた時の喜びは格別です。

　そんな私が2020年３月、有名なチョコレートヒルズと世界最小霊長類のメガネザル、ターシャを見るため、フィリピンの定番観光地・ボホール島へ１泊２日で行きました。マニラからセブパシフィック航空でボホール島まで１時間20分のフライトです。

チョコレートヒルズの数は少なくとも1,200以上あるとされる。乾季には丘を覆う緑がチョコレートのような茶色になる。The world famous Chocolate Hills of Bohol. There are at least 1,200 hills.

　私が行った時、チョコレートヒルズはまだチョコレート色になっていませんでしたが、思ったよりも広大で神秘的でした。その後ターシャ保護区に行くと、ガイドさんから、ターシャは繊細でちょっとした音にでも驚いて木から落ちて死んでしまうと聞いて驚きました。そこでは、いつもにぎやかなフィリピン人来訪者も静かに見学していて、ターシャへの愛を感じましたね。そして、旅行の最後に行ったアロナビーチでは、まさに１日の疲れが吹き飛ぶほど感動的な夕日の美しさに圧倒されました。

　このように、１泊でも十分楽しめるのがボホール島のいいところ。マニラからもセブからも行きやすいので、週末しか休みが取れない方にもオススメです。私もチョコレートヒルズがチョコレート色になる４月〜5月頃にまた行きたいと思っています。

Enjoy Classic Tourist Spots in Overnight Trip

Researching too much about a travel destination on the Internet beforehand will spoil the excitement of traveling. I’d rather be a spontaneous traveler than setting all specific plans before traveling. Things do not always go well as I expected, but mistakes and failure become fond travel memories. Finding non-touristy places, where only local people know, is a great pleasure to me.

In March 2020, I took an overnight trip to Bohol, where I explored three main tourist attractions. First, the world-renowned Chocolate Hills. They did not yet color like chocolate but the view was majestically beautiful. Second, the world’s smallest primate tarsier. At the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary, I was surprised to know that Tarsiers were startled so easily by even small sounds that they fell from trees and died. All the visitors observed tarsiers very quietly due to Tarsiers’ extreme sensitiveness. Third, Alona Beach. The breathtaking sunset view really refreshed me.

The Bohol Island is easy to go from both Manila and Cebu, and I think one night stay on weekend is enough to enjoy sightseeing there. I would like to visit Chocolate Hills again during the season when the hills turn into to the color of chocolate.
